"Side Man" is an emotional memory play about the upheaval
in the family of a jazz musician.
The narrator of this cinematic play is Clifford Glimmer, the
only son of Gene, a talented but self-absorbed jazz
trumpeter, and his alcoholic wife, Terry.
Clifford describes the tumultuous relationship his parents
shared and the haphazard career journey Gene followed over
the course of three decades. Dedicated more to his music
than his family, Gene refuses to accept a regular job to
support his family, and their home life gradually unravels,
with Clifford eventually assuming the role of breadwinner
his father has forsaken and offering his mother the
emotional support Gene cannot.
"Side Man" features Dallas Mugno as Clifford, Richard
Bradbury as Gene, and Tama McConnell as Terry. The rest of
the ensemble cast is Michael Harbach; Daniel Smith; and
Kathy Newville.
"Side Man" is directed by Kirk Lawrence. Ken Blekicki is
music consultant.
Building 24 is located at 1115 Bern Road, Wyomissing, next
to The Works. The production is rated PG-13; with strong
language and adult situations.
Enjoy dinner at Building 24 or The Works before or after
the show.
