Red-hot Ana Popovic headlines
festival's blues schedule
Jazz
News magazine recently described Ana Popovic as "proof that the
reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix is a woman."
Ana Popovic, a big fan of Jimi, was
naturally honored, but she laughed and said: "There is only one Jimi, just like
there is only one Stevie Ray Vaughan."
Ana was right, of course, but with her unique blend of blues, tinged with jazz,
funk and rock, there is also only one Ana Popovic.
Popovic and her band are bringing their red-hot act to the Berks Jazz Fest,
performing Saturday, April 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Inn at Reading. Steve Guyger &
The Excellos will open the dynamic co-bill.
Popovic is coming off an amazing 2012. She was nominated for three Music Blues
Awards: Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist; Best Contemporary Blues Album
(Unconditional); best DVD of the Year (An Evening at Trasimeno Lake).

Gerald Veasley joins Rick
Braun's 'Homecoming' show
Allentown
native
Rick Braun has added Philly bassist
Gerald Veasley as a special guest for his "Homecoming Concert" at the Musikfest Café in Bethlehem.
The concert, a special Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest Preview event, is
set for Saturday, March 30, 7:30 p.m., at the Musikfest Café located on
the SteelStacks complex.
Braun
has never performed in his
hometown of Allentown -- or the
surrounding Lehigh Valley. Thanks to the Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest and
Musikfest
Café management,
that is changing with this concert.
"I'm really looking forward to performing in my hometown area," said Braun. "Really
appreciate this opportunity. And I'm happy Gerald (Veasley)
was available to be part of the show. It's going to be a great warm up for
our numerous Berks
Jazz Fest performances."
Tickets are on sale now! |

Kim Waters, Chante Moore added to festival lineup
Saxophonist
Kim
Waters and vocalist Chante Moore have been added to the lineup for the Boscov's Berks
Jazz Fest.
The "Kim Waters featuring special guest Chante Moore" concert is set for
Saturday, April 6, 10 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Reading ballroom.
Waters and Moore replace Will Downing, who had to cancel his performance due to
an unexpected conflict with his schedule.
Tickets for the Waters-Moore concert are on sale NOW!
Kim
Waters is no stranger to Berks Jazz Fest fans, having performed several times
with his own band and as a member of The Sax Pack.
Kim Waters has been heralded as “simply one of the planet’s best saxophonists”
by JazzTimes. He has built an impressive and enviable career giving his fans
what they want, along the way garnering praise from critics and fans.
Since the release of her 1992 debut CD -- Precious -- Chante Moore has
been a mainstay R&B diva, her popularity spreading around the world. She has
outlasted lesser female artists with her own mix of soul and jazz, and has the
ability to set your heart racing with her looks and lyrics. |

Video of the Week:
Cyrille Aimée

International chanteuse
to make Berks fest debut
The petite, curly-haired French jazz singer
Cyrille Aimée
& The Surreal Band will perform during the Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest
on Friday, April 12, 7:30 p.m., at the Miller Center of the Arts located on the
Reading Area Community College campus.
Aimée is part of the "New Faces of Jazz"
co-bill that also includes the amazing pianist
Eldar and his trio.
Last year, Eldar created a buzz with his festival performance.
The voices inside Aimée, whose father is French and whose mother is Dominican,
come from all over. One minute she is a French chanteuse, the next a playful
salsa singer, the next she dabbles in Bobby McFerrin-like electronics with a
loop pedal. Everything is connected and integrated into an internationalist
concept of jazz that has no stylistic hierarchy.

'Jazz
Under The Stars'
Thursday, January 3

Andy Roberts & Friends set
for Museum series concert
The
Reading Public Museum's "Jazz Under the Stars at the Neag
Planetarium" series continues Thursday, January 3, at 7 p.m.
Andy Roberts & Friends will perform a number of great jazz tunes that have a
"space" theme, plus some original music, as well.
Roberts said "Swingin on the Moon," "How High The Moon," "Stars Fell on
Alabama," and "Moonlight in Vermont" will be part of the performance.
Pianist Roberts arrived at his approach to music and composition through the
absorption of musical styles from disparate eras. His influences range from jazz
greats Fats Waller, Bud Powell, and Chick Corea to rockers like Professor
Longhair and Rick Wakeman.
Vibraphonist Tony Miceli, whose playing has been compared with the legendary
Milt Jackson and Gary Burton resides in Philadelphia, and has been working
steadily on the jazz scene since 1980. As a group leader, sideman, and recording
artist, he has performed with numerous top musicians worldwide.
Other members of the ensemble are Fred Griggs, drums, Nicole Roberts, vocals;
Andy Alonso, bass.
