Destined to join successful concepts such as ‘Guitars & Saxes,' a new dimension of contemporary jazz has arrived -- Generation neXt.
This talented ensemble features world-class musicians -- Nicholas Cole on keyboards, Lebron on  saxophone, Lin Rountree on trumpet, and Julian Vaughn on bass
With justifiable comparisons to Brian Culbertson, 20-year-old Nicholas Cole displays the techncial proficiency and an artistic vision of those twice his age. Cole’s new release Endless Possibilities has scored three top-10 Billboard singles and walks a harmonic tightrope with a Bob James meets Herbie Hancock type vibe that is harmonically a step ahead of his contemporaries.
Soul, jazz/R&B master Lin Rountree is the latest artist to emerge from the ‘new’ Detroit music factory. A leader in R&B, Soul or Groove Jazz, Rountree has performed with numerous jazz greats including the late George Duke, Marcus Miller, Tim Bowman, Kem, Darren Rahn and Grammy-nominated producer Nate Harasim.
“Sound. It’s all about the sound.” That is the powerfully simple principle inherent in saxophonist Lebron’s music. He freely admits that Brian McKnight, Phil Perry and Will Downing all influenced his phrasing, expression and solos.
Bassist Julian Vaughn has burst onto the scene with a scintillating new recording, the appropriately titled Breakthrough. The album is something of a paradox as although it doesn’t bring anything that might be regarded as ‘new’ it does deliver, in the shape of rhythm, melody and a feel-good groove, a whole lot of what the smooth jazz community has been crying out for.
