Berks Bop Night with Chuck Loeb as musical director became a Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest fixture.
The festival lost a dear friend when Loeb passed away July 31 at 61 after quietly and courageously battling cancer for two years.
Chuck may be gone, but his musical spirit remains with Berks Bop Night, which abundantly exhibits the chops of contemporary artists.
Bop is a style of jazz characterized by fast tempos, often dissonant triadic and chromatic chords, eccentric rhythms, intricate melodic lines punctuated by pop tune phrases, instrumental virtuosity, and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and sometimes references to the melody.
It is a jazz style that emphasizes the inventiveness of the musicians.
Which is precisely why Berks Bop Night will be an incandescent listening experience, especially with such luminaries as Jeff Lorber, keyboards; Gerald Albright, sax; Rick Braun, trumpet; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Eric Marienthal, sax; Brian Bromberg, bass; Everette Harp, sax; Rayford Griffin, drums; and Paull Bollenback, guitar.
